Sound in "La Fiesta" video trailer - Annotation
This post discusses the sound of the video trailer:
Israel Galvan. La Fiesta. Festival D'Avignon, 2017. Festival D'Avignon. Web. 30 July 2017.
This is a sound format of the video displayed of the performance of La Fiesta by Israel Galvan. The performance was part of the 2017 Avignon Festival and was staged in the Court of Honor of the Palais des Papes. The venue is the largest and this performance included dancing, singing and performing according to the Spanish traditions of the Flamenco. What Galvan was trying to bring back here is the Spanish traditions he knows and admires. He focuses on sound as part of his creative ideas and says that any sound becomes flamenco when it begins surrounded by other flamencos. He goes against the concept in which tradition becomes simply repetition and imitation and loses its actual necessity. He wanted to strip away all the festival and spectacular aspects of Flamenco and bring back the essence of his tradition. Throughout the performance, he examines sorrow, joy, pain through sound and dance. Galvan does deliver a great piece using both dance and music. However, a key element of the performance was the sounds and noises (which might be regarded as music all throughout). Even the singing was a great change from the other sounds that blended into the performance in perfect synchrony. Examining this piece would allow me to study yet another element which postdramatic theatre focuses on which is sound culture.
